How to Discuss Using Sex Toys with Your Partner

Sex toys have become a multi-billion dollar business. Why? Well, to put it bluntly, sex is an integral part of the human experience and should be celebrated.
Whether you're having sex alone or with a partner, sex toys really can make sex better for everyone. The only problem is that sometimes not both parties agree with the idea.
If you happen to be in a relationship with someone who is hesitant, or maybe even completely opposed to bringing sex toys into the bedroom with them, then here are five ways to get them to the other side; sex toy-wise.

Honesty.

Look, if you dance around the topic of using sex toys with your partner by saying words like “maybe” or “possibly,” then you're leaving your partner too much room to doubt that sex toys are a good idea. Instead, be explicit. Explain to your partner that using sex toys together is not only about the physical aspects, but also the emotional ones. In fact, a 2016 study by We-Vibe of 1,000 men and women between the ages of 35 and 55 found that sex toys lead to better, more authentic communication. Communication is the foundation of every happy and healthy relationship.

Address the level of empowerment of sex toys.

When we accept our sexuality, regardless of our gender or sexual identity, we are empowered. Sex toys are part of that empowerment because they are part of embracing one's sexuality. Taking control of your own desires and sexual needs and then sharing them with your partner can be a truly empowering experience for both partners. However, their partner may not fully understand this until they try sex toys as well.

Explaining sex toys can take the pressure off both of you.

Because most women (75% to 80%) can't orgasm through penetration alone and need stimulation, sex toys can be a big help in this area. Whether it's a woman who can't orgasm when she can't, or a man who is frustrated by his inability to make his female partner orgasm, sex toys can eliminate anxiety. When we eliminate anxiety, both partners can relax and have a more enjoyable time.

Make it clear that you both deserve pleasure.

To say that pleasure is a human right is an understatement, but frankly, there's no simpler way to express it. So: pleasure is a human right! Sex should be a full-body experience between two (or more) people, and anything that needs to be included to ensure ultimate sexual satisfaction is achieved (sex toys) should be included. It's as simple as that. Sex toys in no way imply a lack of one, or even two, partners. The only thing they imply is that humans are sexual beings and deserve pleasure.

Pointing out sex toys always spices things up.

If your partner has never walked into a vibrator store, now is the time to bring them in. Sex toys have come a very long way, especially in the last decade alone. Innovation has made sex toys so advanced and so in tune with the human body that between major technological advances and all the sex toys available, it takes a couple a long time - if ever - to get bored with their sex life. That alone should be a big selling point for any partner who is still wary of using a sex toy with you.
